Won - The Silent Decade [12", LP]

First of all i must admit i never heard of the band WON, until i got this album as a present last week. They're a Swedish band from Malmö and if i'd have to describe the music on this (instrumental) album i'd say it is a mix of afrobeat, funk, krautrock, progressive and postpunk. Some pretty good tunes on here. It's quite more polished and especially less punky than other recent bands who have similar influences (such as Wooden Constructions for example). Mainly has to do with the generally slower tempo and more extensive use of keyboards all over. I could only imagine that their live gigs would have the risk of becoming a little boring after a while, since there are only few instrumental bands that manage to grab anyone's attention for a full set (like Mogwai or Explosions In The Sky). But as an album, THE SILENT DECADE is a very pleasant one. It's available from the label's webshop.
