Floor - Dove [12", LP]

FLOOR was a band that was formed in 1992 by (a.o.) Steve Brooks, who would form TORCHE in 2004, when Floor had stopped a year earlier. This particular release, DOVE, was recorded in 1994 but only saw the light of day 10 years later: in 2004.

My copy is part of the 5th (and final, as far as i know) pressing from 2007. 279 copies were pressed on blue vinyl.

Warpaint - Undertow/Warpaint [7"]

There were only 500 made of this Record Store Day 2011 release with a double A-side, so it's quite rare and you won't find it anywhere cheap. Two songs from their album The Fool on blue vinyl.

Ride - Play [12", EP, promo]

This EP by RIDE, called PLAY, was released in 1990 on Creation Records. Besides My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, Ride were definitely one of my favourite bands on Creation Records. This copy was used as a promo for the UK market by Scott Piering's Appearing Promotions publicity consultancy, as can be seen from the sticker that's still on the front. Even the original letter that came with it was still included when i scored it in 2010 at Stockholm's Nostalgipalatset.
Check it below. "Guitar bands are back with a vengeance and the charts are proving it".

David Bowie - El Hombre Que Vendio El Mundo [12", LP]

It started in highschool, around 1983. DAVID BOWIE had hits in the charts like Let's Dance and China Girl, and i bought the Let's Dance album. Most other kids were into Michael Jackson those days, but that was when i started to become a real Bowie fan. Not much later, i bought two compilations (Golden Years and Rare), and then i started to collect David Bowie. On vinyl, since CD's would be much more expensive. And not even all his albums were released on CD yet either. Up until the early nineties, i had over 50 Bowie vinyl releases. Then Ryko would bring out remastered reissue CD's with bonus tracks, and being a poor student at the time i decided to get rid of my old LP's and singles, and buy those CD's.

A decision that i still regret a lot, but we can't turn back time so no use to think back much about all the great stuff i had.

Little by little, i am building a David Bowie vinyl collection again. The most recent purchase (at Velvet Records in Amersfoort) is a Spanish pressing of THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD. The musical content is the same (although it would be funny to hear the Dame sing in Spanish, like he did a German & French version of the song Heroes and an Italian one of Space Oddity), but the cover artwork is all in Spanish. So the title of this one's EL HOMBRE QUE VENDIO EL MUNDO, and for example the song Black Country Rock is called Rock De La Tierra Negra.
No idea if it's rare, but at least i'm very happy with this peculiar relase.

Soundtrack - Lost In Translation [12", Picture Disc]

This picture disc with the lovely behind in see-through underwear of Scarlett Johansson on one side, is one of my favourite picture discs. Normally i'm not too fond of picture discs due to their doubtable musical quality, but since this album is extremely hard to find on vinyl i'm pretty happy with it. LOST IN TRANSLATION has many great artists on the soundtrack; such as Kevin Shields, My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Death In Vegas and Air.

And, to be honest: who doesn't want Scarlett's ass on a picture disc?

Nadja - Long Dark Twenties [7"]

This single-sided 7" by NADJA is of their song LONG DARK TWENTIES, which is based on a song by Paul Bellini, that appeared in the movie Kids In The Hall: Brain Candy. I love Nadja's slow electronic metal-shoegaze a lot, and this is one of my favourite Nadja tunes.

There were only 125 made from the transparent orange version that i have.

Sugar - A Good Idea [7"]

Recently i finally had the chance to pick up the Copper Blue album by Bob Mould's SUGAR, as it has been released on vinyl by Ryko in 2011 for the first time ever, 19 years after its original relase.

This 7" single was lifted off that album, and A GOOD IDEA is without any doubt the best Pixies song ever that has not been written by the Pixies at all! I was really glad when i bumped into this awesome single some time ago at the Velvet Vinyl Outlet in hy hometown Leiden. Been looking for this song on vinyl for ages.
